Description
Wednesday, July 16 / 6:00 - 8:30 PM
Take your handbuilding practice to the next level with an intimate observational workshop led by acclaimed ceramic artist Sandy Harquail. This 2.5-hour demonstration is designed for potters and handbuilders with some clay experience who want to deepen their understanding of sculptural slab construction.
Over the course of the workshop, Sandy will build one of her signature forms from start to finish, walking participants through her entire process from pattern layout and cutting, to forming and refining the final structure.
Working in her distinctive “seamstress-with-clay” style, Sandy brings an architectural sensibility to soft slabs, transforming flat planes into volumetric, breathable forms. She’ll share the design thinking behind her choices, her pattern-making methods, and the subtle techniques that elevate a piece.
This is a watch-and-learn format designed to give you a front-row seat to an experienced artist’s process. Bring a notebook, your questions, and an openness to learn!
Price: $75pp - 10ppl max
About Sandy:
Sandy Harquail is a Vancouver Island-based ceramic artist whose handbuilt work bridges architecture and organic form. Working primarily with clay slabs, she approaches clay like a seamstress — cutting patterns with curves and darts to create volumetric, sculptural vessels. Her work has been exhibited across Canada and she has taught workshops at MISSA, Nanaimo Ceramic Arts, the London Clay Art Centre, and beyond, supporting potters at all levels in deepening their handbuilding practice. You can find some of Sandy’s work in the gallery here at Wilson & Co.
