Ladysmith, BC – Sarah Wilson, the first Mary Fox Legacy Project apprentice, has opened Wilson & Co. Gallery in Ladysmith, BC. Wilson completed the two-year apprenticeship program in 2023. She had graduated to selling her ceramics though her own studio and at artisan shows when the space at the prime location of Roberts Street and 1st Avenue in Ladysmith became available in summer 2024. “It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Wilson.
With support from the Mary Fox Legacy project, she signed a lease and began renovating the former women’s clothing boutique. “It’s a beautiful, light-filled space in a perfect location that’s perfectly suited as both a gallery and a pottery studio,” she said. “I wanted to share this magical space with others, so I invited fellow artists to show their work here as well.”
In addition to Wilson’s own wheel-thrown pots, the gallery presents the work of Victoria artists David Ellingsen, photographer, April Ponsford, abstract painter, Roberta Pyx Sutherland, mixed media artist, and Caitlyn Chapman, silversmith; Ladysmith artists Mary Fox, potter, and Danielle Roberts, woodworker; Vancouver artist, Danica Charles, beaded jeweller; and Nanaimo artist, Sandy Harquail, potter.
“I started the Legacy Project to give young ceramic artists the tools they need to be successful,” said Mary Fox. “I’m tremendously proud of Sarah and wish her all the best in her exciting new venture.”
