Mary Fox

Mary Fox is a self-taught exploratory potter who has been working with clay since she was thirteen years old. Mary’s focus is on expressing the beauty and strength of pure form and delights in the challenge of creating contemporary vessels based on classic lines. Mary has a keen interest in developing original glaze effects for her work.

“I create endlessly. When I started my creative career, I thought I would be a functional potter and had no idea that I was an artist, this came as a complete surprise to me. I work at my art pretty much all the time and am constantly being flooded with new ideas and artistic paths I want to explore. Some might say I am obsessive about my work, but that single-minded focus has led me to where I am today, a successful artist.”

Mary has exhibited worldwide but more recently, her focus has switched to finding ways to help support up and coming potters. She developed the Mary Fox Legacy Project and started a two-year apprenticeship program with this in mind. Mary has also written a book, “My Life as a Potter – Stories and Techniques” and is currently working on a second!
